Hi, I'm Zeyana

I do research on math learning and spatial thinking

Since 2024, I have been working with the Mathematical Thinking Lab at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Zachary Hawes. Before that, I was a Math Content Developer at Synthesis and a Software Developer at Rayyan. I did my undergrad in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

Education

While there have been glimpses of interest and promise in educational math games, I believe there is still untapped potential for games to make learning more engaging, effective, and intuitive. To explore innovative approaches to educational game design, I independently developed and tested game prototypes covering various middle school math concepts.

Teaching

I've been teaching here and there since high school. I've taught students of all ages, both online and in person. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing concepts click.

Software Development

I've always enjoyed making things, and the options feel endless with code. My favorite projects are ones that present problems with non-obvious solutions, as they push me to expand my skills and discover new approaches.
