Our player finds themselves in a village full of creatures all stuck in strange, glowy traps. In return for gems to repair a wrecked plane, we have to help free all the creatures.
Sounds like a regular game so far, but these traps are actually operations involving negative numbers! And the trapped creatures are actually representing +1 and -1. They can be negated and canceled out just like negative numbers.
This means that by solving these trap puzzles, they’re actually solving negative number expressions.
And every step has visual feedback so you can find out if you followed the right steps.
Rather than just telling students to memorize facts like negating a negative number makes it positive, or that equal amounts of a positive and negative value cancel out to zero, they can discover them in a more tangible way. They can see what the arithmetic operations do when negative numbers are involved, especially for more complex expressions that might feel too abstract seeing them as just a bunch of numbers and symbols.
