Bakery Regrouping

This game teaches subtraction by regrouping by setting the student in a bakery in charge of giving the customers the amount of macarons they ask for.

What the player has done (probably without realising it) multiple times throughout is a form of regrouping! The aim is to use visceral and tangible intuition and have it gradually resemble more and more of the method you’d use when you’re performing subtraction on paper.

And the game is designed to give feedback regardless of what you try. That means if you get the question wrong, you’ll visually see why and figure out what needs to be done differently. So through trial and error, you can pick up the patterns of how the numbers change and what those changes entail.
