A software development company at my coworking space had a contracted app project that they were stuck on for months. Some of the core features weren’t functioning correctly. The head of the project knew I worked on apps so he requested my help completing the app.
The app was for a sales company to help their employees track interactions and clock their location routes and time through the work day.
Their app was written using Flutter. I’d not worked with Flutter before, but I had experience with hybrid development using React Native as well as the Google Maps API used by the app. It felt like an achievable challenge, since most of the UI was in place and basic functionality like authentication were completed. And it would allow me to work with Flutter, which I wanted to do at some point.
Besides, my interest is always piqued by tricky problems that bottleneck a project, because the solutions require some digging around and playing with different solutions. I feel like I learn and stretch my skills the most with those features.
I agreed to take it on and within a few days, I resolved the issue with their core tracking feature and got it working. And by the end of the two weeks, I had completed the other remaining features they had requested. With a few more back and forth and tweaks, the client was happy and I was glad that I was able to help get the app ready to be used after it had been stalling for a year.
